For its time, it was a very innovative move, and one that was well-received. Instead of just interacting with NPC Sims, these Sims you saw in the game were representations of actual people. The main thing that players loved most about The Sims Online was that they could interact with other players from around the world. This gave players a lot of choice in what they could build and do with their properties, beyond just creating a home to live in. The property type affected what players could do with them, including what objects were available. Properties had different categories, including Services, Shopping, Entertainment, Residence, and Skill.
